cs601r_w2020:proposals

Objective:

To help get ahead of the curve by planning your project.

Deliverable:

A 1-2 page writeup of your project proposal.

Grading standards:

Your proposal will be graded on how thoroughly it explains your project.

Include the following sections:

  • What is the problem you're trying to solve? Why is it interesting? What has been done / what is the state-of-the-art?
  • How will deep learning be used to solve the problem?
  • What data is required? Is it already available, or do you need to collect it?
  • How will you train your DNN?

Depending on the nature of your project, some sections may not be applicable. Include them anyway, and explain why they do not apply. (This may be especially true of theoretical projects)

Each section is worth 25% of your grade.

In addition, if this will be a group project, tell me who will be in the group, and how you plan to divide up the work.

Description:

I will almost certainly approve all projects. However, I reserve the right to veto a proposed project if I feel that it is out of scope for the class, the division of labor is unequal, or if I feel that the project would not result in a good learning experience.

Note: Project 1, project 2 and the final project may not overlap. I want you to work on a diversity of project ideas. You may wish to plan ahead.
